Social Listening & Monitoring Tools

Listening is different from an inbox. An inbox shows you activity on accounts you already connected. Listening tracks keywords, competitors, and mentions — including conversations happening on accounts you don’t own. Very few tools in this space treat listening as a core, included feature; most gate it behind an add-on.

What we’re tracking

  • Whether listening is included or a paid add-on, and at what price
  • How many platforms it actually covers (own-network only vs. web-wide)
  • Keyword monitoring vs. competitor tracking vs. sentiment analysis — not every tool offers all three

Tools profiled here

Agorapulse builds listening into the core product rather than gating it. Hootsuite offers deep listening powered by Talkwalker (capped at 5 brands). Sprout Social covers the widest platform range for listening but sells it as a separate sales-quoted add-on. NapoleonCat specializes in automated comment moderation and sentiment — including on paid ad comments, a genuinely rare capability. Statusbrew bundles listening with sentiment analysis and approvals, but only from its Premium tier. RecurPost includes listening in its base plans rather than as an add-on — thinner than the dedicated listening suites above, but at a fraction of their price (disclosure: same team as this site).

At the enterprise end

Emplifi offers listening only as an add-on or bundled into its top tier. Sprinklr and Meltwater are quote-only enterprise suites — we track them, but we don’t treat them as like-for-like alternatives to the scheduling-first tools in this Directory.
