Tailwind’s pricing page no longer has one answer. On 2026-09-02 we requested tailwindapp.com/pricing-overview seventeen times from fresh sessions, with no cookies carried between requests. Twelve of those requests returned the Free Forever / Pro / Advanced / Max credit-metered tiers we logged on August 17 and reported removed on August 26. Five returned the “Mix & Match” à-la-carte products that replaced them. Same URL, same minute, two different pricing pages.
The mechanism is visible in the response. Every page sets a cookie named __tw_split_modular_billing_200. Responses that carried the tiers set it to control; responses that carried the à-la-carte products set it to variant. Sending the cookie back by hand reproduces the assignment every time: four requests with control returned the tiers, four with variant returned the products. A headless browser session, assigned variant on arrival, rendered the products. The tiered page also carries a build stamp, x-tailwind-version: 2026-09-01-21-33-4faadf7a, dating the current deployment to the evening of September 1.
What each arm shows is unchanged from our earlier readings. The control arm reads, annual tab selected by default, “Pro … 40% OFF $29.99 $17.99 /mo USD Save $144 a year!” with “150 Tailwind Credits/mo 150 Posts/mo across Instagram, Pinterest & Facebook 1 account”; “Advanced … 45% OFF $54.99 $29.99 /mo USD Save $300 a year!” with 300 credits, 300 posts and 2 accounts; “Max … 50% OFF $99.99 $49.99 /mo USD Save $600 a year!” with 1000 credits, unlimited posts and 3 accounts; and “Free Forever … $0 /mo USD” with 5 credits and 5 posts. The variant arm reads “MIX & MATCH Pin Scheduling & Creation … $17.99 /mo”, “Pinterest SEO … $11.99 /mo”, “Pinterest Engagement … $11.99 /mo”, and the bundle at “A $41.97/mo value $29.98 /mo … Save $180.00 a year!”, with the footer line “All plans are per Pinterest account.” Its monthly rates are the July figures, $29.99, $14.99, $14.99 and $44.98 for the bundle. Not one dollar figure in either arm has moved.
The experiment’s own name says which side is the challenger. “Modular billing” is the à-la-carte model, and it is the variant; the tiers are the control. In our sample roughly seven visitors in ten were shown the tiers. A first-time buyer who lands on the page today is therefore more likely to be sold Pro at $17.99/mo annual for 150 credits than Pin Scheduling & Creation at the same $17.99 for 300 credits, which is the allowance gap our August 17 entry described and our August 26 entry described as reversed. Both descriptions are now true at once, for different visitors.
This also reframes the two entries that precede it. On August 17 we read the tiers and logged a restructure; on August 26 we read the products and logged a reversal; on August 28 and 31 we read the products again. Each of those sweeps took a single reading of the page. If the split test was already running then, a single reading could only have landed in one arm, and the sequence we published as restructure, then reversal, may in part be the sequence of arms we happened to draw. We cannot settle that retroactively: we did not record the cookie in August, and the Wayback Machine holds one snapshot of tailwindapp.com/pricing-overview since July, dated 2026-08-03, with nothing after it. What we can say is that as of the September 1 build both structures are being served deliberately, by cookie, from the same URL. The change window for the split as we can observe it is 2026-08-31, when our sweep read the products, to 2026-09-02.
For a buyer the practical advice is simple. If the page you are shown lists Pro, Advanced and Max, you are in the control group; clearing cookies and reloading gives a roughly one-in-three chance of the à-la-carte page, where the same $17.99 buys twice the credits under Pin Scheduling & Creation. Tailwind has not said how long the test runs or which structure will win. We will keep reading both arms and log the outcome when one of them disappears.
Prior coverage: Tailwind reverses course nine days later, restoring its à-la-carte products (August 26, 2026), Tailwind scraps its à-la-carte products for credit-metered tiers (August 17, 2026), and Tailwind repositions as Pinterest-first, credit-metered (July 2026). Current state, both arms, on the Tailwind profile.
